Adding supplements such as fish oil for dogs into your dog's diet is filled with many health benefits which some can start to see in just a week! These benefits can be improved joints, glossier coat and more!
To find out all the benefits including the disadvantage of Salmon Oil for dogs, check out our blog.
Feeding Salmon oil is as easy as it could be with Skipper's. We recommend feeding our Salmon Oil mixed into your dog's complete food. You can either use the pump or a teaspoon to measure the correct amount of Salmon Oil.
As another important note, when you select and add the Salmon Oil to your basket, you will have a choice of 2 options: including a pump with your order or not including a pump. This is very helpful, especially if you have your pump from the previous order or prefer to use a teaspoon.
The amount of Salmon Oil you should feed your dog a day depends on the size and weight of your dog. For example, a male Labrador is expected to weigh between 29 - 36kg, and a female Labrador is expected to weigh between 25 - 32kg. By looking at the chart below, you can see that they fall into 'Large (24 - 48kg). Therefore, you would feed an adult Labrador 3 - 6 pumps or 2 - 3 teaspoons of Salmon Oil a day.
Dog's Weight | Pumps | Teaspoons |
---|---|---|
Small (0 - 12kg) | 1 - 2 | 0.5 - 1 |
Medium (12 - 24kg) | 2 - 4 | 1 - 2 |
Large (24 - 48kg) | 3 - 6 | 2 - 3 |
Large (48kg+) | 4 - 8 | 3 - 4 |
Yes, feeding too much Salmon Oil can lead to some side effects such as diarrhoea, itchy skin, and more. Therefore, make sure not to feed more than the daily requirement for your dog.
If your dog starts to show some of the side effects, please visit your vet as soon as possible.
Store the Salmon Oil in a cool, dry place which is away from any direct sunlight. This can be inside a kitchen cupboard, in a pantry, etc.
If stored at lower temperatures, part of the oil may solidify. Please do not worry as this is a natural process that will reverse as the oil comes back to ambient temperature.
Yes, we advise using the Salmon Oil within 12 months of opening or looking at the use-by date on the bottle. Additionally, if the Salmon Oil is not stored correctly, this can result in shortening the longevity of the oil. You will be able to tell the Salmon Oil is not of the best quality by the smell and change of appearance of the Salmon Oil.
